Spyin' Kop: Manchester United (H) 13/09/08

I tried to write a rational introduction detailing how losing would not be the end of the world, but winning would be great, how a win would work wonders for confidence, and other such over-used clichéd bollocks… It’s all true of course, but let’s be honest here – it’s about fucking time we got one over on these twats and another loss would be sickening.

Barclays FA Premier League

Saturday September 13th 2008
Kick-Off: 12.45pm
Anfield

Normally I'd list their honours here but, (at the risk of sounding bitter) I just can't hack it with this lot.

Predictably, I didn’t have much luck finding many Mancs with a willingness to help, so big thanks to Cockeroo and the *hilarious* (::)) tomlamb_red from the Manchester United Rivals Forum and my mate Mark, who stepped in at short notice to answer some questions.

How is the season shaping up so far?

Cockeroo: OK, we need Carrick back in the team asap though.

Tomlamb_red: Peach

Mark: Too early to tell, I think. Opening day was disappointing.

And your new signings? Are you pleased? How are they settling in?

C: next question.

T: Who've we signed.

M: Again, too early to tell. Berbatov should be a good signing, but pricey.

Our own problems between boardroom and manager are well documented, but you had some problems with your owners when they came in. Do you think, based on what you’ve experienced at your club, it is possible for our Yanks to make amends with the supporters and the manager?

C: No, they should be run out of town and replaced with a consortium featuring Jerry (from jerry and the pace makers), Jimmy Corkhill and Kerry Catona.

T: Yes........sexual favours always help.

M: Haha, good question! I think our situations are completely different and it seems like your issues are irreparable. But what do I know?

I have to ask, what do you make of the goings on over at Man City?

C: They will do what chelsea did a few years ago, offer our targets more money (Essien, Mikel, Robben) and snaffle them up. Plenty of players to go around though.

T: They deserve it for have the best fans in the world............do they still have big floodlights?

M: Not worried. I think you should be more worried than we are.

What are your expectations for this season?

C: Rafa will be gone replaced with Kevin Keegan.

T: Mid table and hopefully The Johnson Paintball trophy (Ferg still hasn't won that one)

M: To defend the Premier League and have a good run in Europe.

Who do you think is your most important player(s)?

C: Michael Carrick.

T: The numer 10........not sure what his name is.

M: Rio.

Your worst player(s)?

C: We don't have one.

T: The number 24

M: Worst? None.

Do you have a particular memory of any previous meeting between our clubs?  Say something that happened to you that day or a decision you disagreed with?

C: There are so many good memories, O'Shea and Forlan scoring probably stand out.

T: When Jamie Carragher destroyed Liverpool bagging 2 in a 3-2 win............the season after the Treble...........we even had a clown in goal!!!!!

M: Good – Forlan scoring! Bad – Danny Murphy.

Any young up and coming players in the squad that we might not know about?

C: We usually sell them when they show some promise.

T: Ryan Wilson.

M: No-one you won’t have heard of.

What sort of line-up will be put out against us?

C: One that will beat you.

T: Its a secret

M: What is this a scouting mission?

Do you have any favourite/best chant(s) and perhaps any that require an explanation?

C: I like the one about throwing them in the river mersey.

T: Yes

M: None that I would repeat infront of you.

Where do you expect yourselves, and Liverpool to finish in the Premier League?

C: Liverpool 5th us 1st or 2nd.

T: Liverpool will just pip City to the league on the last day in the best title finish ever. We'll finish 7th

M: Us – 1st. You – 4th.

Which Liverpool player will you fear the most?

C: Mungo, he's a beast...

T: Carragher..........he's a real gangster.

I've took to walking around with a David Thompson look-a-like so i don't get kicked in.

M: Torres is out, isn’t he? And Gerrard? Then no-one, really.

Care to predict the score?

C: 1-0 to us. O.G. from Keane.

T: No

M: 1-0 to us.

Finally, who are your predictions for the winners of the following?
Premier League
FA Cup
Carling Cup
Champion’s League

C: Premier League - US
FA Cup - Everton
Carling Cup - Everton
Champion’s League - Bayern Munich.

T: Premier League - Liverpool or City
FA Cup - City
Carling Cup - City
Champion’s League – Liverpool

M: Premier League - Us
FA Cup - Chelsea. Or you.
Carling Cup – Aston Villa
Champion’s League – Inter Milan

Thanks again to the two lads from Rivals and to Mark. And I hope you are all thoroughly gutted come Saturday afternoon.
