Title: Them and Us: Leeds II
Post by: Rushian on October 24, 2003, 05:15:35 pm
This week for the first time we have an alternative point of view in our Them and Us feature. Jon Abbott who edits the website leedsfans.org.uk gives us his thoughts.

RAWK: How has the start of the season been for Leeds?

Jon: A good start against Newcastle, Saints and Boro. Then it all went into a bit of a slump. Dreadful performances at Leicester and Everton - when we were on the other side of Stanley Park we were lucky to escape with just a 4-0 defeat.

What are you expecting of this season?

Not much. Survival would be nice. Mid table would be brilliant.

Should Peter Risdale be barred from any involvement in football?

Nope. Any club stupid enough to take him on deserves all it gets. Hi Barnsley!

Who do you think is your most important player(s)?

David Batty - we've been a different team in the two league games he's played. Michael Bridges - if he can get to full fitness - should be playing for England as first choice striker. He is a 20+-goal a season player who makes goals as well as being good in the air and good from dead ball situations. Yes, I really do mean he's got the possibility of being seen as better than Owen - but he's had a nightmare 3 years with successive injuries and needs a good long run in the side.

Your worst player(s)?

Roque Junior looks like it will take some time for him to adapt to the English game. In terms of talent versus delivery, Mark Viduka. Brilliant when he wants to be, but might as well be on the bus if his heart isn't in it.

Any young gems in the squad that we might not know about?

Probably not seen much of Aaron Lennon yet - very young and nippy winger. Will cause a lot of trouble for one-paced centrebacks.

What sort of line-up can we expect on Saturday?

Robinson - Kelly, Matteo, Camara, Olembe - Batty - Pennant, Johnson, Milner - Viduka, Smith.

Your favourite/best chant(s)?

Marching on Together.

How do you think Liverpool will do this season?

4th is the best you can hope for. From what I've seen so far, a UEFA Cup place is more likely. 'fraid your defence isn't up to it and despite the money that has been spent you're not going to be challenging for the title or Champions League top spot for some time yet.

Which Liverpool player will you fear the most?

Michael Owen if he can stay fit long enough. Gerrard if he can keep his temper under control. Heskey if the referee is gullible.

And your feelings on Anfield?

Good ground - we've rarely encountered any off-field problems here. The management and fans have always respected good football - right from the Shankly days through to the present.

And Harry Kewell?

Greedy, lazy, talented. Says he wants to be seen as the best player in the world - but then avoids offers to ply his trade at Old Trafford or in Milan or Madrid where he would be under pressure for his place but have the chance to win the biggest trophies. Sure, Liverpool might be his boyhood team - but he's not going to win any serious honours at Anfield.

Predicted score?

2-1 to Liverpool.

Thanks once again to Jon for the time and help in answering our questions.
