Post by: Rushian on April 15, 2006, 03:33:52 am
Details of the 17th Hillsborough Memorial Service to be held at Anfield on Saturday, 15th April 2006.

The 17th anniversary of the disaster in Sheffield that cost 96 fellow fans their lives will take place today. As is the custom, the Hillsborough Family Support Group are organising a Memorial Service to mark the occasion and to remember those who died.

The service will be inter-denominational and will take place on the Kop. It will commence at 2.45pm, include a minute's silence at 3.06pm and concludes at about 3.30pm with the singing of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. There will be readings from Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.

Tickets are not required and LFC and the HFSG extend an open invitation to everyone to join the families, the Directors, officials and players of LFC plus thousands of fellow football fans in the annual act of rememberance. This year is expected to be exceptionally well attended and they ask that you allow adequate time and plan to be in your seats by about 2.15pm.

Phil Hammond, Chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group said: "We light a candle to remember each individual life that was extinguished prematurely and we rely upon the eternal flame of the Hillsborough Memorial to burn some light into the darkest night."

There will be limited car parking available due to Everton playing at home today.

Prior to the service there will be the customary walk/procession starting at the HJC shop (opposite the Albert Pub) at approx 1.30pm. People are asked to meet at the HJC shop at around 1pm to begin linning up at 1.15pm ready for the 1.30pm procession along the road ending at the Hillsborough Memorial for the laying of flowers followed by words and remembrances by Pete Carney.
