Everton v Liverpool Spyin' Kop, (29/11/09):

Posted by Terry de Niro on November 25, 2009, 09:07:09 am

On the back of a much needed win (be it in vain) in the Champions League, it's over the park we go to our lovely neighbours and a much needed three pointer at stake.

Both teams have had their fair share of injuries and woes so far this season. But it's another local derby where League positions and form go out of the window.

Let's hope we turn up and get a win, and kick start our season. Onwards and upwards, as we say..

You never know, we might just meet them again in the Europa League..  ;)

So far with my derby Spyin' Kop reports, I've been to the pub with a few mates. Last season I done it through e mailing certain people who I also know.
For this one I asked a few mates (who I know in person) from Facebook to contribute.

I hope no one minds me doing it this way, as I don't want to be trawling my way through other teams fan forums..

So, a big thank you to Shaun, John and Toddy for their help...

So how do you see your season going so far?

Shaun:  Not as well as I'd hoped but not too bad under the circumstances.

John:  We've had a lot worse, to be fair. Our season starts on Sunday.  ;)

Toddy: Slow start again, injuries not helping, but should be in the top 10 at least.

What are your expectations for the rest of this season, and do think you can fulfill them?

Shaun:  I would like to finish top 6 and return to Europe but I don’t think we will.

John:  Evertonians don't have expectations. Take each match as it comes.
We probably won't get a European place in the league, this season. But I'm hoping for a good run in one of the cups.

Toddy: Last 32 Europa league, win more home games starting Sunday.

Who has been your best player/s this season, so far?

Shaun: Leighton Baines.

John:  No one has really stood out for me, so far.

Toddy: No one outstanding but Distan and Saha have impressed, also Billy .......... watsit....Bilyaletdinov and Jack Rodwell

Which player/s have you been disappointed with?

Shaun:  Fellaini is awful.

John:
Hibbert has been his usual shitty self, and Fellaini has been dreadful, to say the least.

Toddy: Fellaini should not be as clumsy as he is, too many bookings.

We've both had our fair share of injuries, who would you say you've missed most?

Shaun:  Arteta without a doubt but Jagielka has been a big miss just as he was coming into great form.

John:  Obviously Jakielka at the back and Arteta is our orchestra conductor, who makes us tick. So I'd say Arteta over anyone else.

Toddy: We've missed Arteta, Pienaar and Neville, it's nearly a midfield.

What of Liverpool - what have you made of our season, so far?

Shaun:  I think Liverpool are underperforming as a team, they have too big a gap between their great players and the players brought in to replace the likes of Gerrard and Torres when injured, the squad isn’t strong enough to compete at the top.

John:
  Hmmm. Where do I start?
There's no two ways about it, at the moment you are a two man team with Gerrard and Torres. With Alonso you had a lot more options and I can't believe that Rafa was whoring him around in the hope you'd get Barry, who in my opinion is an overrated money grabbing so and so. That definitely unsettled Alonso, and that's why he eventually joined Madrid.

I also think that you need to sort out conceding from set pieces. It's becoming a bit of a joke. How on Earth Rafa and his backroom staff can't see that it's a problem is beyond me.

Toddy: You've definitely under achieved. I like most Evertonians was worried at the start of the season, but not now.

Your best memories of a Merseyside derby?

Shaun:  Sharpys volley, Cademateri leaving the defender on the half way line and going on to score.

John:
Standing on the Kop with a load of red mates, when Sharp cracked that volley in the late 80's. Deep, deep joy.

Toddy: Andy King's volley after 7 years without a win and Andy Johnson heading past Reina.

and your worst memory?

Shaun:  The 86 cup final by a long way.

John:  The 5-0 tonking at ours.
The two FA cup finals.

Toddy: Clive Thomas?

Where do you think both teams will finish in the league?

Shaun:  Liverpool 5th or 6th, Everton 8th or 9th.

John:
Liverpool will probably just get a Europa place, Everton about 9th or 10th.

Toddy: Liverpool 6th and Everton 8th.

Finally, care to give me a prediction on the score?

Shaun: 0-0.

John:
  6-5 to us.   ;)

Toddy: Everton 3-1.
